Returned from my lunch break here in the office to find my office door locked (as per my instructions to reception) with an oh so sweet brown box sitting on the desk.
I have never thought that i would be so happy to see a plain brown box sitting on my desk.
My 20D has finally arrived........ to think i checked the UPS page about a hundred times a day until finally an import scan showed, then within moments a destination scan. Been here in the office all morning growing more anxious by the minute to have reception call me down to the front.
YAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY :) :) :) :)
Let the good times roll

Congrats on the new cam - waiting for boxes is GREAT - I think that the anticipation of delivery may be better than actually getting it!

Start making moaning noises from your office (the bad kind, not the good kind.....), grab your stomach and then run to the toilet.
Come back kind of slowly and looking all unkept and pasty......
There you go - excuse to go home and 'play 20D.' ;)

Don't crash your car on the way home fiddling with it, - or drop it while on the train. he he

I was going crazy before my 20D arrived. I skipped 2 classes to wait for it. It was 2 weeks before finals :(
Funny thing is I think I was more excited about the 135L though. :p

The thought never crossed my mind. Ive been culprit to over excitement in my past. When i bought my first car, (when i was a weee little lad), i went out and had extractors, new muffler put on for stage 1 of what i considered my quest of squeezing every little ounce of my engines performance out.
On my way home that day, i was so excited with my new beefy sounding exhaust that i trapped myself in a frenzy of just accelerating to hear it. I ended up doing about 80km/h up to a set of red lights (mind you it was a 40 zone) with parked cars. Luckily for me i noticed at the last split second, performed a skillyfully excecuted right hooked turn into oncoming traffic (fortunately the road was clear) into a side street.
I got away with my rear tail lights clipping the parked cars rear right tail lights.
Geez just describing the whole incident revokes so many stored memories and my visions are still as vivid today as they were the day after the event 6 years ago.
So no... i wont be tampering with it on the way home... but feeling the force, young jedi, I WILL...

Hey Nabil-A,
I am also from Australia, but from Sydney... congratulations on your purchase!!! Do u mind me asking where u bought the 20D from? If it was from overseas, how much did customs charge u for it - import plus GST?
The reason i ask is that i bought a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro from an internet site based in HK and the customs charged me AU $108 for it!!!
Thx
Dave

You will be charged for GST + customs clearance... but no duty.... digital cameras are exempt from duty.
i ended up paying officially $2200.00 (inclusive of delivery and insurance, customs handling and GST. I received the camera with the kit lens, 7 years warranty on the lens, 3 years warranty on the body, + bonus's like haze filter & spare battery.
I figured i saved at least 300 compared to purchasing here.

Hi Dave,
I bought a 20D last week (expecting delivery tomorrow!!!) from www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au - they were the best price I could find in the country - by far!
I got the 20D + EF-S 17-85 f4-5.6 IS USM + 1GB Sandisk Ultra II all for under $2K AUS.
Check them out!

When i called, they quoted me $2183 for the body and lens (kit not 17-85 IS USM). and no bonus (and no 7year warranty on lens).... which is why i went abroad
The deal you claim without the memory card is advertised on their website as the enthusiast kit
http://www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=172 at $2900+

Nabil-A.....I hope u r taking some great photos to share with us on the forum!
Is the custom clearance charge the same regardless of the cost of the item? Also some internet companies send customs a lower price receipt for the item shipped so as to try to lower the total GST cost...i think the Oz customs knows too well how much these items are worth and actually charge GST according to Oz prices. But as u said u saved $300 bucks!
Zeke... i have checked dirtcheap but didn't think they were that cheap, in fact i stumbled upon a guy in Sydney who sells his GST inclusive Canon/Nikon gear at very competitive prices...i dare say even cheaper than some internet companies after u add GST and customs charges. Check out his site:
www.d-d-photographics.com
I have bought a few lenses from him and i must say the prices were amazing. An example: EF 16-35mm f/2.8L for $AU 2000. I picked it up personally so did not have to pay postage!
