I am not sure if something like this has been setup before but thought I would throw it out there. I thought it might be fun to setup projects for ourselves where we can share our photos, different takes on the same ideas, etc. with eachother, especially for us amateurs.
If there is enough interest I can setup forums specifically for different projects on my current site (or we could do it in a thread here maybe) it could be a great way to learn, experiment and gain experience with different things. If anyone has ideas on this, please feel free to chime in and share your ideas.

I personally love the idea! It sounds like something I need :)
The competitions are scary for a newbie like me... but to say "let's trying shooting this or that" and then discussing those shots.... perfect!
Count me in if you do it and thanks for thinking about it!

lol, I was just thinking about something along the same lines. Every couple weeks, or maybe even every week, have a new theme, which could be anything from a color to an object to a mood.
It would be a great way for all of us to develop as photographers, and it could help those who are kinda stuck on just what to shoot next.
Perhaps we could have a "Projects" or "Assignments" forum, with a thread for each theme.

I was thinking that maybe we could start out with a fun assignment of some kind, nothing that requires too much from anyone but something fun, a theme of some sort. Then, everyone who participates can shoot, then post their photos on the subject we come up with which could be great for bouncing ideas and different perspectives off of each other.

Sounds a good idea to me, although I think every two weeks for a new subject would probably be best to give people a reasonable chance to get some shots they are happy with.

Sure or even once a month, we can also have more than one category going at one time.

Here's a project you can do on your own no matter what you're shooting: Allow yourself 20 shots. No deletions & no chimping, so turn off the LCD. Have fun, & make your brain sweat a little! ;)
(And, welcome to the world of film!) :D:D

I am all for that, we should have a common subject too. Considering it's mostly newbies (figured that would be the case) interested in this I don't expect they will set anything up for it here. So I have setup a forum specifically for this at my site called "Assignments". Anyone interested in taking part in this is welcome to register (free and easy) over there http://www.ericsmedia.com/vb/ we can post all of our pictures in there also.

I think this is a great idea. I'm up for a challenge.

I'm in, too.
How about we start suggesting topics, with the "rules" as Photoguy outlined but also modified? IOW, say, "pets/animals" or "plants" and the first 20 shots are all done without looking at the LCD to see what you've got and how you need to improve. And then the next 20 are with the LCD on, so we can compare. Post one from each set, and see what the difference is (if any). "Due date" will be next week sometime, or two weeks from now.
Of course, feel free to ignore my suggestions, as this wasn't at all my idea. I just thought we should get "started." Like I said, I'm in no matter what.
Best-

I think you have some great suggestions, feel free to start a topic on it over there and whoever else wants to chime in can share theirs as well.

For anyone still interested in this, we've setup an assignment for People Here (http://www.ericsmedia.com/vb/index.php) Photos may also be hotlinked and shared here as well if you choose.
"People"
- Not Posed (Surprise shots.. daily tasks.. doing dishes..watching tv sleeping whatever (but with permission to post it lol)
- Posed (Person holds still specifically for you to take the shot)
Again this is for fun and learning, there is a month time limit on each assignment so there's plenty of time to get your shots in.

This going to take form on the forum or only on Ericgtr's forum? I really rather not join yet another photography forum to participate in something like this.

Understandable. If they wanted to set something up for that here I would be more than willing but for only a few (mostly new) people who are interested, I don't see them doing it and wouldn't bother asking. Another option is keeping a thread going here for it but even that may be asking a lot.
