Just got my Rebel XT Black body only and with it a 135 2.0 L. Great Lens!!!! But it brings to the front....what next ???? I'm trying to THINK my way through these lens purchases instead of FEELING my way through. Are there any recomendations as to what focal ranges need to be covered???? ie: a lens for every 50 mm or so ???? I like many folks shoot many kinds of subjects. Any thoughts ???

Given your proclivity for the finer things in life.. I would have to assume that many of the "usual suspect" might not meet your needs.

For instance the "beginner" L telephoto is the 70-200mm f/4L...
But with the 135mm in your hands.. this is mostly redundant and of course not another prime.

The short list would include;

If Zooms are an option;
17-40mm f/4L or 16-35mm f/2.8 L
24-70mm f/2.8L

If primes only;
35mm L
28mm f/2.8 USM
One of the 85mm .. either f/1.8 USM or the 1.2L .. depending on budget.. both fantastic.

What type of shooting do you do?

What i'm planning to do might actually suit you.

A 16-35 L, 50mm F1.4, 85mm F1.8 and the 135L.

Perfect balance of lens spend to body ... nice!

You may shoot most kinds of subject potentially, but probably not in equal proportions or with equal enjoyment. Which do you shoot most and enjoy shooting most? What is your overall budget? Do you want prime lenses only or zooms, or a mix? Are you tied to a single brand or do you want to look at alternatives as well? Do you like to travel light or do you want to take a bag full of lenses with you everywhere to cover every eventuality?

I like Sean's collection if you like primes ... lucky he only takes pictures of Pigeons in Piccadily Gardens at the long end tho' :lol: :lol: :lol: :p

135/2L for the first. Wow. That's sweet :)

I'd pick up a 50/1.4 for something shorter and faster. Then maybe the 85/1.2L for something in the middle, but that's pricey.

Also consider the Sigma 18-50/2.8 for a walkaround lens, you need something wide dontcha?
