View Full Version : Slipping a Mickey to a Mouse ...

Ok. This will sound odd. As do alot of my questions. But here goes:
I need to sedate a mouse. Not gas him or anything. And not totally knock him out. Just make him sluggish, but awake.
Ideas? Suggestions? And please no cries of animal cruelty, the sad truth is that the mouse I use will come from a reptile feed store and will be making a brief cameo in front of my lens before making his final performance as dinner to my brother's boa. Circle of life and all that.

P.S. - Some of you might notice this is a recycled post from another board. What can I say? I'm lazy.

Lol you could try a tiny dose of alcohol. Maybe a bit of vodka or anything else hard? I don't know, just guessing.

Although I suspect a vet would give better answer, pick up some over the counter sleep medicine and sprinkle over likely food mouse would eat (AKA cheese). If mouse dies, don't feed to snake. Since snake bigger then mouse, if mouse drowsy/sleepy, but not dead then snake should be at worse drowsy from eating mouse.
Again I recommend you ask an actual vet since they are likely to actually know what may harm the snake. I take no responsibility if mouse lives and snake has alergic or other harmful reaction to mouse.

Lol. Well to make everyone feel easier I may not give the mouse over to my brother's snake. Maybe I will just set him free in a field. But I suspect he would just be back in the big city looking for another hit to suport his new habbit.

Just put him in the refrigerator for an hour. He should be numbed into hypothermia.

Works great to put insects into torpor, but I'm not sure about how effective it would be on a mouse. Maybe put it in front of a 24-hour Everybody Loves Raymond marathon, that would be enough to put an elephant to sleep. Probably qualify as cruel as well though.

The guy in this thread says he blasts the mouse with CO2 before feeding him to his boa to put the mouse in a docile state.
He made a short video of the feeding.
Poster is HIV
the link for the video is near the bottom. and has red letters in post.
