I'm an artist currently learning about digital photography of artwork. I'd like to purchase a reasonably priced camera that would be ideal for shooting paintings in order to make giclee prints (5 megapixel+) I'd like to know if anyone specializes in this and what camera is the best for shooting artwork? I'm not too concerned about fancy features but the clarity of images/colours and details.

Thanks so much for the help

find and used d60, cheep lenes and a 550ex flash on ebay - mount the camera and flash on a tripod - bounce the flash off the ceiling (asuming that it's white) - this will be an easy way to shoot art and give you a great result

If I had to do that on a tight budget, I would use an 8 megapixel camera (e.g. 20D or Rebel XT). I would use two flash units, one to the left and one to the right, at 45 degree angles to the camera, which is shooting straight on from a tripod.

I agree with Bob. They don't have to be expensive lights! Quartz, or incandescent work lights from the hardware store are OK, 'cause light is light. Custom WB though. Use manual exposure. Some heavily textured oil paintings might benefit from a polarizer.
