Hey guys, my wife made these nifty little cupcakes for our sons first birthday and she wanted a pic of them so she could put it in his baby book. I took this as a challenge. I used natural light from our dining room window and exposed the cupcakes using an 18% grey card as well as did white balancing with the Grey card. It was on a tripod with a shutter speed of 1"5 of a second with an aperture of F8 I believe. I also used mirror lockup and the timer because I dont have a shutter release cable yet. I just wanted to see if anyone thought that it looked okay? I tried to go by the book and do things properly as far as exposure goes. The photo is not edited or changed in anyway. It's straight from the camera. The cupcakes where a bit messed up because they where a day old.
Blessings

Thanks awp, I guess my real purpose for putting these up was to show the results using my above method in which I learned most of from this forum. I think I was posting it more for the exposure and technical aspects then I was it's artistic value. I guess I was happy with the outcome based on the settings and thought process that went behind capturing those funny little cakes.. LOL

I love the shots, very good.
What were they sitting on? A black table? or is that a new background from PS? If not , it worked out great.

Great color, great clarity, great DOF...Everything! Whatever you set out to do, I think you did!

That photo is making me hungry. :)
Sharpness and exposure look good to me. A couple of improvements would be to position the cakes in a nicer pattern and it looks like you caught the edge of the table cloth in the bottom left hand corner.
But really that is nit picking.
Bet the kids loved them!

Thanks for the feedback.. I didnt really give much thought to how they where positioned at all. I didnt do anything ellaborate with the setup because she just wanted some quick pics. The was the first time I really used the grey card for all metering purposes. I think Mirror lockup really helped on that particular pic.

Thanks man! That was the reason I posted the pic on the forum. I thought it was one of the best looking pics I have taken and I wanted to see if anyone else though it was as good as I did? I know as far as the subject matter it's kind of just okay, I was excited over the polished look of the cakes to be honest. I felt like I made good decisions and did everything I could to get a proffesional shot. I enjoyed the process of setting it up and shooting em that way.
