This is Kerry's '67 Fairlane 427. It's bored & stroked to 486 cid & has 2 4bbl carbs, & a 11.7:1 compression ratio. A 4 speed top loader transmission pushes a 4.56 9" Ford rear end.

I'm not really a Ford Guy, but I've GOTTA say this is one SWEET car! :D
The drive train specs are reminiscent of the 65 "T" Bolts, which were Fords limited production race cars back then, and based on the smaller Fairlane bodies and had their signature "Teardrop" shaped hoods. ;)

Great shot of a motor that you can actually work on. I just changed the plugs on my 95 4 Runner and it took me two hours. Two of them I could not see at all I just had to go by touch.

Back plugs on that 427 Windsor would'nt be easy either...

"Detroit engineering" didn't seem to talk to the guys the guys in the shop much (at all). I think it was the '58 Olds(?) that you had to release the engine mounts & raise the engine to get at 2 of the plugs!
OTOH, the Leyland people who made Triumphs knew they'd have to work on them, so the whole hood & fenders would swing up out of the way.
Ooops, I mean "bonnet & wings"!:D

Looks like it was a tight squeeze to get that engine between the struts. What's a "toploader" transmission?

I AM a Ford person, and all I can whimper now is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!
I recently saw an original '67 Farilane 427 (read EXTREMELY rare!) with not even 500 original miles on it sell for close to $150,000. Sure wish I was the buyer!

Google is your friend! (http://www.google.com/search?as_q=toploader+transmission&num=10&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=images) ;)
TOPLOADER HISTORY (http://www.davidkeetoploaders.com/toploaderhistory.htm)
The Ford Toploader Transmission was introduced in 1964 to replace the Borg Warner T-10. This is the super-tough transmission built by Ford Engineers to stand up to just about anything demanded from it.
Internal parts of the Toploader are assembled through the top of the case instead of through a side cover, thus the name "Toploader." This design is actually stronger than a 4-speed box with a side cover. The shifter rails are mounted in bosses that are cast into the box itself, leaving the only function for the top cover to keep the lube inside.

How about a 66 in Red? Shot these 3-20-05 at a car show at Jerry's Nugget Casino. This car also has the Ford 427 Side oiler engine. I wish I had more time and room to shoot this car, but here it is anyway. Please excuse the harsh lighting.

Here's the rear. The 9" differential has 4:33 gears, and of course Posi Trac.

I wish I hadn't clipped the rear of this shot, but it's all I've got of this angle. Looks like He could use some hood springs, but I'd have this car regardless.

The Engine, 427 Side Oiler running 14 to 1 compression. I hope He has stock in Octane Booster. ;)

That looks like the MkIII version of "Dickie the Stick", ™ Johnny Carson, don't you think?
Personally, I liked the original broom handle for the satisfying noise it made, but there was some merit in the redneck mod, the willow branch, too.
