So I am lucky enough to be studying in Italy for about 6 weeks.
What I have:
Canon 7D
70-200mm
10-22mm
manfrotto 055xprob
2x16GB CF cards
Lowepro Fastpack 250

Being there for 6 weeks, mostly in Genova, I will have a lot of time to walk around and take pictures. I am most likely going to pick up a 50mm f/1.8 very soon, I need a lens that will be decent for indoor shots.

Something I am a bit scared of is my tripod. It's not exactly a travel tripod and i could see myself wanting to walk around with it a lot. Plus fitting it in my suitcase..
I definitely want to bring a tripod though especially since I will be there for six weeks.
So I am currently debating selling my current tripod and buying a 4 section tripod?

Let me know what you guys think any any suggestions that you may have for equipment that would be nice to have for this experience.

I'm leaving in 4 days for Rome/Sorrento area for 2 weeks.

I thought 24gb's of storage would be enough, but I am thinking it's not going to be enough. Ended up buying a little netbook to upload the photos at night to help free up space on the cards.

I have a little Joby tripod I'll take around at night. It's not tall or very useful if I don't have anything tall to put it on, but I don't want to take my large tripod. It's better than not having anything at all for long exp. shots.

Make sure you have the right adapters for their AC power supplies.

10-22 will be ideal but I would have thought you would be better with a mid-range zoom to fill the gap between UWA and 70-200. I took a 24-70 with which I did most of my shots and a 70-200 (I didn't have an UWA though) - I didn't use the 70-200 too much at all. The 50 f1.8 might do the trick for you.

Whatever tripod you take, make sure it's light.

If you are there for 6 weeks and shooting RAW, I'm not sure that 32GB of memory will be enough (depending on how trigger happy you are and what your schedule is). Having said that, you can always buy more memory there if you need it.

Have fun and post the photos.

I would personally bring a laptop + a card reader if that was the case. Then the OP wouldn't have to worry about capacity.

I prefer an extra memory card or two to carrying a laptop but I guess it's down to personal preferences. I usually travel with the family so traveling light is always a priority.

Enjoy your trip, and oh, by the way...
I was gloating over your list of gear and I recalled an episode as I was strolling with two others down a wide boulevard in said city.

I noticed some young kids making through the protective fencing along the footpath, seemingly intent on crossing the busy road. This they did, and it seemed they purposed to thereafter climb through the other like fence along which we were walking. This they proceeded to do, and at that point I realised that we - I in particular - had been the focus of their interest. It seemed my camera bag over the shoulder and video camera hanging from my neck were the objects of their desire. They proceeded to distract us at very close quarters, but sadly for them, to no avail. I seemed to have successfully dissuaded them from their obvious aim of relieving me of some of my touristy items with a few loud warnings in Italian to cease and desist and generally make themselves scarce. I was thinking how they seemed to understand my displeasure, but I reflected on how ignorant I felt when I couldn't understand their communications. It turned out they were young refugees from some former Eastern Bloc land.

But wait! There's more...
About two weeks later, in Rome, near Termini station we underwent a similar episode. Again, they were thwarted, but that time they had an apparent mother with them, seemingly egging them on, and alternately giving a hand herself in pawing at our arms and clothing. I felt obliged to address my displeasure at her, and hinted strongly at calling the police.

Both times I patted my pockets to make sure they hadn't actually succeeded in anything nefarious. Happily, they hadn't, but it wasn't good.
Am. (Oh, did I say, Have a good trip?)
