View Full Version : "Is that the lens where you can have, like, McDonalds in the background?"

So, as some of you know, I have been working on movie sets lately. Don't worry, it's not nearly as glamorous as it sounds. Well, except for all the food they feed you. And except you are really the only guy without a boss and that has nothing to set
up. And no one will ever know you missed the shot. Yeah except for that not very glamorous.

Anyway, my morning ritual is to show everyone the photos from the day before on my iPhone (I really need an ipad). This has made me very popular every morning. Well today I was showing the lead actress some portraits I made of a few of the actors and she immediately commented "Is that the lens where you can have, like, McDonalds in the background and it won't matter?"

I lol'd and replied "Why YES, it is in fact the 135L."

:)

Wish I could show you guys these photos. It's killing me keeping them a secret but I am under an NDA until the movie is released.

Any fast prime will work, but that's a pretty funny comment.

Haha, funny comment! So naïve.

When is the movie released? If you can say that.

No idea when the release is scheduled. I imagine a year at least. It's nothing huge. B movie horror but with a few really cool horror actors like Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses).

But it's a full on production with grip crews, 20kw HMI lighting, etc.

hmm what's with all those i-product?
Are they really that good or are they just over-hyped?

Does anyone here have an i-Rack or i-Ran?

NSFW, but funny... especially seeing that this was done in 2006 and Apple still went ahead and released a product named "iPad."

As a tool to display photos to clients, the ipad is awesome. Everyone knows how to use an iPhone to
browse photos. You just hand it to anyone and they can immediately start flipping through pictures.

The iPad really is amazing as a media device. I'm actually typing this out on one now. It's a really great resource combined with the camera connection kit since you can just pop in your sd card and boom instant photo reviewing. Really the best for showing people the pictures you just took.

Aside from the Apple tangent,
I know the feeling- I've had numerous comments like "whoaaa, how did you melt away all that other crap?" and am fully aware of the futility of trying to explain DOF

How about those who can build their own computers or don't want to use iTune which is essentially a bloatware that puts a remarkable strain on your system resources? ;)

They do know how to build good computers. What I was asking is if Macs are relevant at all for those who have good knowledge about computers and who can build computers themselves. It doesn't make much sense to pay premium for something that doesn't seem to be that good even though they are shiny and made by Apple ;)

I think I qualify as being (knowledge)able in this field, and yet I own two Macs and to me they're quite relevant. So either I'm just daft, or perhaps there's something more to these machines than meets the eye.

To the topic, a buddy of ours shot some airplanes for a friend of his and it had the nice bokeh and everything. When the guy showed them to his wife she was all, "the background is kind of blurry" like it was a bad thing :)

The camera connection kit comes with two parts: one is a SD card reader, and the other is a USB adapter so you can plug in your digital camera and transfer your photos regardless of the type of media your camera uses.

In other news, just wrapped week 1. Was supposed to have the weekend off but just got hired to shoot a Val Kilmer show all weekend. Portrait sessions with Val tomorrow! Watching Tombstone now... Will report back with pics. No NDA on this show.

Thanks! :D

You actually gave 2 leads. #1 Sid Haig plays in the film. # 2 your location is partly Louisiana. When I googled Sid Haig, I found that one of the films he is preparing takes place in the Bayou. I got the title and checked in IMDB. There seem to be only 1 girl in that film, so it was quite easy...

Pretty girl :D

Lucky for her, since she does not sound like she would have a lot of luck looking for a real job....

P.S. Those clips about i-Rack/i-Ran/i-Pad were just too funny. Maybe I should spend more time in front of the TV than in these forums.

It's sad though I have met a lot of pretty girls but most of them either don't seem to have high IQ or are hypocrites who just want to take advantage of people. :(

Yeah, MadTV is awesome! Though I don't watch it TV because there is this site called YouTube :D It's kinda like South Park and Family Guy but less vulgar and "shocking" :)

I've even had family say the same type of thing (how did you photoshop that blurry) about my old 50 f/1.8 II and that bokeh doesn't even come near the creaminess of the 135L.

I am going to print this in as effective a Canon marketing font as I can find,
"EF 135mm f/2L: The lens where you can have, like, McDonalds in the background and it won't matter"

...and affix this to the box of my 135mm!
