homepage newby question

i have checked out the whole "machine" great tool and i have placed pictures, thumbs are there and i can see them. i have an exposition
Now i want to place that first gallery on the welcomepage but in one of the other ways i cannot find the solution. i see the link copy past etc. but that seems not to work. I must be in front of my eyses?

i am new in php.
