This has puzzled me for awhile now - lots of members on the forum talk about having a camera to keep in the car for quick photo opportunities. What is the deal as re: car temperatures, particularly right now, when it's super hot even outside the car?
How long can you keep a camera in a locked car? Is it okay to leave the camera in the car if you remove the memory card?

Why would removing the memory card have any effect?

From what I understand, the memory card is the part of the camera that is super sensitive to heat. But, I might be wrong, which is why I asked the question.

I don't the memory care would be any more sensitive than the rest of the camera which has high-speed buffer memory in it, all the electronics for image processing, the ccd etc. But maybe. In any case I think the specs might be on the canon site or in the manual. I looked once and only found "operating" temp specs not "storage" specs. I tend to leave my 20D in the car most of the time (we hit a record 105 yesterday here in Denver) and I've not had any problems, that doesn't mean it is right though. ...

maybe in the boot (trunk) with the spare tyre, i leave allsorts there and it never gets too hot....but we do not get huge extremes in temp over here.

I have always been told that it is NEVER a good idea to leave your camera in the car w/ high Heat temperature. You do have to remember that just because the temperature outside is 104 degrees. It doesnt mean that in your trunk will be the same. normally its 40+ more added. personally I would not do it.....

I'm too chicken to do it, but on the days I have to keep it in the heat... a small six pack cooler is where it is stored. You can also put ice packs in the bottom of the cooler (that don't leak) with the equipment near the top. This of course requires planning. As far as just leaving it there.... yep...I'm too chicken.
