Any recommendations on a newb mountain bike?

I was looking at some mountain bikes from Trek and I don't have the slightest clue on what to get! I am a 1st time rider and i am big guy about 6'1 and around 250 so i need a comfortable bike! Which one should i be looking at?

Also, i am a type of guy that doesn't buy much stuff but when i do i like buying nice stuff. Budgets around 400-600. What do you think guys?

I bought the 2010 Trek 4300 Disk, i love it and its in your price range!! I payed 550.00 out the door.
I also bought a 3700 for my wife and its nice but has alot cheaper parts on it.

And they dont look like that anymore(they were both new there), more parts and alot more mud!!!

Go to a local college and keep an eye on the for sale bulletin boards. Lots of students have bikes that have been used all year to get to class and job and dorm and cafeteria but never saw a speck of dirt and now as the end of the year approaches, they will be cheaper to sell and replace next year than to ship back home and then ship back to school next fall.
