Suddenly, without my changing any settings, the shutter release on my
Canon 20D would not fire. I had Focus confirmation and was in AI focus. I turned it on and off a couple of times and after a few minutes it would allow me to fire again. I had not made any other setting changes.
I would appreciate any help or advise as I have a couple of important photo shoots coming up and I don't want to get stuck!!
Thanks for any advise.
Lynn

P.S. I just upgraded the firmware to version 2.0 from 1.5 but I'm not sure if it will help or not.

It could be the shutter's gone. Take it to a local camera store, who will probably tell you to send it to Canon.

If it would be my 20D, I would try the following:

1. Try another lens
2. Put the old firmware back

If the problem persists...

3. send it to Canon.

My 20D is at Canon as we speak (3 Loooong weeks now)for a similar problem although when mine locked up it wouldn't switch off (the display still worked even with power in off position) The other thing I noticed was the menu button wouldn't bring up a menu when it was locked up. Changing the firmware didn't help.

What I'd suggest is take lens off the camera, set dial to Tv (any speed) and press shutter button.
There's likely something seriously wrong if the shutter doesn't fire and there's a fully charged battery in and a freshly formatted CF card in the slot.
