The long exepected replacment for Windows XP currently code named 'Longhorn' looks like it has gone and got a real product name, so d(rum roll please) the new verion of Windows will most probably be know as:
Windows Vista.

I couldn't help but smile. About 10 years ago the chairman of the development company where I worked was passing by the office, smiling at us and sharing uplifting pleasantries. My desk faced a blank wall, with little windows high above. "Those windows need to be lowered", he said. "What developers need is a vista".
The windows were never lowered, but of course we were all relocated frequently so it didn't really matter. One day (late 2006 or during 2007) I hope I can tell him that his promise came true. I suppose if he wasn't so forward-thinking he would have said "What developers need is a longhorn" ... :mrgreen:

Quote from the August issue of Digital Photography;
"Microsoft is to increase the compatibility of RAW files in current and future versions of Windows. It has been working closely with Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm and Adobe to deliver support for digital camera RAW images in the next major version of Windows. Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP will also be available shortly and will allow users to view thumbnails, and preview and print Nikon and Canon RAW files from Windows Explorer."

I have had it for a while too, not the most stable product around though, although some would say that is generally a MS thing ;)

We (at work) get it as a beta or release candidate next week sometime, I have already seen it running once, main difference was the GUI, all 3D rendered now, so it requires a 3D video card.
I think its official release is still next year.

Vista? That's the best MS could do? Vista?
Reminds me of the Chevy Nova marketing fiasco in Mexico in the '70's.
I think Gates is opening himself up for serious ribbing on this one.
I some how doin't think that Gates is not worried. look at all the other times that MS can't do something right. They are still there and they still make money.
