It was very easy to be honest, the shot was taken at a wetlands a couple of minutes drive away which seems to be a very popular spot for people just to walk and jog. I think alot of people must feed the birds there as when I turned up I was the only person (besides my wife) and there was dozens of the moorhens and ducks running at us. So the hard part of this shot was to try to caputure only one bird that close lol.

Around here the most you ever get to see of them is a brief glimpse as they dive into the reeds !!

Nice job! It's great to find a good place where critters are used to having people around that never chase them.

They are both good, over here we call no.2 a spur wing Plover,( they use it as a weapon.)

I have some photos of them flying somewhere and you can really notice the spurs. Too be honest most people do call this a spur-winged Lapwing, we have 2 different races here in Australia. The one most people refer to as a masked lapwing is Vanellus Miles and the bird I shot in this photo is a Vanellus Novaehollandiae. Both birds have the shoulder spurs, the Vanellus Miles is the less attractive masked with the lighter brown back.
I thought Plovers were a different bird of the Pluvialis family ? I guess many birds are common all over the world with different names and I do find it very confusing at times lol. They are an interesting bird anyways, I enjoyed watching them for quite a while :)
