Hey, i'm trying to figure out my new xsi and i've seen many photos that say 5 shot or 3 shot exposure. From playing around with the camera, the AEB seems limited to 3 shots. Do you have different cameras? Also, does anyone have a photo from a 3 shot hdr compared to a 5 shot hdr? What do you lose?

Most Canons are only capable of the 3 bracketed shots, some Nikons can do more. Often 3 shots is enough, witness alot of wonderful photos posted here. You can do more than the three, but you have to do that manually...search a bit, you'll find great posts on all that. Give the 3 shots a try and go from there.

I have the XSI also. There's a couple ways to do it.
1. Manual exposure and bracket with the shutter speed.
2. Use the AEB and set it for 1 stop brackets. Then using the exposure compensation drag the exposure to -3,-2, -1. Then drag it up to +1,+2,+3. Then shoot a normal exposure.
That way you've got 7 exposures from -3 to +3.
I usually use manual. It's easier for me.

I find using the three shot bracket twice combined with 5 fps or whatever your camera does to be easy. Six clicks of the wheel that moves exposure compensation between two hold-downs of the shutter.

My 1D Mk III does 3, 5 or 7 bracketed shots. I only ever do exposure blending rather than HDR but I've never used more than 3.

What 2 shutter speeds would I need to pick to bracket 6 evenly distributed exposures in Tv mode? If someone can set me up with 2 sets of shutter speeds to start with that would be great.
Sometimes 3 exposures is not enough when shooting a scene that has very dark & light areas, such as looking inside an open door to a staircase, as seen in this 10 exposure HDR by my g/f:

Thanks for any help!

If you're gonna use the auto modes to bracket you should use AV so your bracketing is done with the shutter. You don't want to bracket using the aperture since changes the depth of field.

Sorry, I meant full Manual mode. Thanks for pointing that out.

Found this out last night as i was shooting AEB self-portraits and it started doing this. I luckily tried Manual. Tough thing was standing still for 1/3 to 1 sec. Anyways, thanks to all. And as far as not just doing it on my own without AEB, I didn't have a tripod until yesterday and was worried about camera shake.
