Hi,
I've some problem with my S40. When sliding
the front barrier the lens does not come out.
Otherwise the camera works i.e the display etc.
The battery is also okay.
When dismantling the camera I discovered a small
battery inside (MS614F) used for keeping the date
and time.
Does this battery also provide current for detecting
if the front barrier is open ?
Or does anyone have any clue what could be the error ?

I have come away on vacation and have identical problem! Have emailed Canon who have offered no solution either send it in for repair =$200+ or have a refurbished Canon S7(something) for $250. Mine 3 years old almost to the day. Have you managed to find solution yet? Please reply if you have resolved issue.

Regards

Hi there, have you solved the problem? is it the MS614F's problem?

My S40 is dead, completely no power. No LCD display, and lens do not come out when the cover is slided open.

Could you let me know your experiences please?

It's more likely that the camera suffered some shock or impact damage and the lens mechanism was knocked out of kilter, or the battery circuitry's failed in your case. Neither of the two previous posters have been around for almost 3 years..
