I THINK THATS CALLED DEPTH OF FIELD... BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SPEAK WITH SOME OF YOU GUYS THAT ARE DOING THESE AMAZING PHOTOS ON THIS SITE... HERE IS A SAMPLE OF MY WORK.. Hey Brad, 1st and foremost, welcome to the forum! You look like you have two awesome models to help out.
I'm not sure why, but both images look a touch out of focus? I like the second shot ALOT, but I'd watch to make sure the background isnt so busy the next time you have your models posed.
The shallow depth of field you're refering to is also called Bokeh, and will make your subject jump out like it does in the second photo
Best advice I can give is to keep that camera in your hand 24/7 and shoot as much as you can. Since its digital, you can always delete the stuff you dont like, but once you start to find your style, figure out why you like it and what settings you're using to create that style....then practice till you're shutter finger swells up
With a model like that, it's not like you're going to get bored anytime soon:D

Yea, thank goodness your writing in lowercase. But big case IS FUN :D
The focus is a little off, but still loving it. And what adorable pitties!
