I had my camera last night in a club so my gf suggested i take some shots just for fun...
is this ok or the background too distracting?

What background?

The background doesn't bother me. The flash makes the background darker and your subject stands out well.

I've never been fond of shots that make me tilt my head, though.

Oops...sorry...it's the only way i could include all of her...and it looks better landscape than portrait...somehow..

the background isn't distracting, but tilting my head is

I don't find the background distracting either. Maybe a little more blur would have been nice.

The tilt is a start. And I think she should focus on either her pants or her top. Not both.

Since she's your gf, take her to an area where you don't have so many people around. I wouldn't suggest a club to be the place to do some nice shots of her.

To get practice and start, there are lots of areas usually that give good backgrounds, lighting, etc. I just don't think that's the best place.

Getting her comfortable will pay off big time. If you can spend a lot of time, like most of the day, it helps because then the person relaxes and you can catch them in more real moments. :)

Good luck. You got a beautiful girl friend. Lucky one.

I think it's a way cool picture. I like the details of her nails and bracelets, as well as the more obvious details.

It's not her pose, it's the angle. It hurts my neck to look at it. She's very pretty and my dirty old mind started to wonder, ooops I'm back... I agree with Grego, Shes very pretty and I'm sure you could get greater shots in a different environment with better lighting. Oh yeah I also agree with the other poster..What background LOL

To try and find something distracting it would be the guy in the background, but the great flash work draws you to her beauty. Love the earring it works well. She needed to get rid of the purse.

She's very pretty, just get her out of those brown/beige/fawn clothes.....

.... and into something else ;)

For fun, the tilted angle is OK, adds a bit to the dynamics & spontenaity to the photo, but don't make a habit of it unless you own a chiropractic business & are trying to drum up some business, hehe.
