I'm considering buying a D1s and had a chance to try out a 'returned' camera at my local camera store. They guy who bought it claimed it wasn't as sharp as his $30K medium format back...:^) I shot 12 frames in RAW and got two that were defective when opened with Adobe's new Camera RAW plugin. The 256meg card I used in the D1s works flawlessly in other cameras and my USB card reader has never delivered anything like this before. If anybody has seen this type of image before, I'd like to know under what circumstances the image was produced. See a 500X300 pixel JPEG at this URL http://www.trix.com/sphoto/photos/broken.jpg
Thanks

I can't tell you the exact problem but this file is corrupted. I get these occasionally in my work. I do digital prepress work for a large ad agency. Generally the message is that due to disc error or some such the file is corrupted. Sometimes the entire frame is garbled because of it. I would test the CF card and try the camera again with another CF card if you have one. If the problems persist through more than one card, I would consider the camera suspect and act accordingly. Excluding a faulty CF card, it could be something as simple as dust in the CF card slot precluding a good connection or something as complex as a loose connection within the camera body. The fact that the entire image is not corrupted makes me think it's a connection problem somewhere.
The fact that the CF card has been reliable previously isn't a 100% guarantee. Make sure the pin slots are clean and check the 1Ds for similar problems with a small flashlight. Make sure the store guarantees your satisfaction. Obviously they want to sell it as it's already used.
Good Luck!
