View Full Version : Photographing a couple

Hi guys.

I usually do 'photo-journalistic' work, but I've been asked to take a photo shoot of a couple.

Now, they're not engaged or married - just a couple getting out of college pretty soon.

Any tips as to how to take the photos, what's appropriate for couple photos, how to direct them, what they should wear, poses any of that?

I've also done very little retouching in photoshop outside of what's ethical for a photojournalist - so are there any tips as to how much retouching I should do, and maybe some tutorials on some techniques I can use?

Any help would be awesome, thanks guys!

Edit : More info - since I only have one strobe and no assistant (no reflectors either) (this is a free job for a friend of mine, I really want to use it to experiment with the whole "people" aspect of photography) this will be done outside, hopefully on a sunny day. I'm looking into a few places to go in the area for some nice shots.

Will it be an indoor Studio shoot or an on location shoot?

This is going to be outdoors on location.

whats wrong with photojournaling them as they go thru the day or something?

For dating couples i just follow similar poses/style as engagement shoots, but just without the ring shots
