Has anyone purchased one of those cheap AC/DC battery chargers for camera batteries off eBay? I would like to pick up an extra charger to take on trips and I am wondering if they work OK. They can be had pretty cheaply.

For what battery??? I have the AA battery charger that is strictly DC since the plug is a DC transformer and it comes with a 12Vdc auto adaptor..

Sorry for not being more clear. I did say camera battery but waht I meant more specifically was a BP-511 battery.

I have one for my 350D/XT Batteries, it seems to work ok. Haven't tried it in the car though and I would think it would take around 4hours in a car to charge. I got mine from Eforcity I think they were called, came with a couple of batteries.

I have one AC-powered Canon two-slot charger, and one AC-powered Canon single-slot charger. Then I have one 12VDC-powered charger from Greenbatteries, and it has its own AC adapter, so I can use it in the car or in the home. From what I can see, they all work about the same.

I have the original Canon charger that is AC only. I also have a Lenmar Mach 1 charger which works fine from AC or from DC, this is the main charger I use. In my camera bag I keep my Power 2000 charger (also AC/DC) with the 12V cord, mainly because it is a nice small charger.
Now I have a total of 7 of the BP-511 batteries after a recent purchase of 4 batteries from Sterlingtek. I think I can safely say that I don't live in fear of running out of batteries at an inconvenient time.
Back when I only had 4 batteries I had flattened the 2 in my battery grip, so I swapped them with the 2 charged ones. While travelling by car from the location of day 2 of the Rally of NZ to the location for day 3; I charged both of the flat batteries so that I once again had 2 full batteries ready to swap if required. I think that its nice to have the option of recharging while driving, but if you are staying somewhere with power available then you should be OK with charging each night.

Since the thread was a general thread camera battery can be any type of battery. Although the DRebel and the 20D shares the same battery the XT and the 1D series uses two different types of batteries. Then there are th P&S that can take AA batteries.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I guess I will have to pick one of these up for traveling.
