Vegas to SoCal - photo road trip

I need to be in SoCal in June for business mtg. I'm thinking about flying in and out of Vegas and driving back and forth, and in the process making it a mini-vacation. I've never had a "real" camera when I've been in Vegas, so I am excited to experience that.

I'm wondering what photo opps there are on the desert drive to and from SoCal? Route 15 mostly, I assume. Any more scenic routes? Any thoughts or recommendations?

The 15 is an interesting Interstate because there is almost nothing to look at while you are driving on it. Which is why most people drive around 100+mph when they can. lol

There are some places, like the Calico Ghost Town and the city of Baker. I can't really think of many other things, since most of what I have seen from the freeway is desert while flying by at 100+mph! Lots and lots of desert.... There probably are some things out there, but I've always been to busy trying to get to Vegas to stop. I've always wanted though. Those are two places I would definitely spend some time at.
