Hi all,
I've been offered a refurb'd 1DS (with Canon 12month warranty) for about the same cost as a 1DMKII.
Any thoughts?
My main considerations are speed of 1DMKII and possibly better noise reduction at higher ISO versus more pixels. All three are of importance to me.
Cheers

I have thought of getting the 1Ds myself, mainly for the 11mp. But everytime I get ready to pull the trigger I think of the ISO issues with this camera, slower start up, sloow buffer, and older style CCD sensor. I am going to wait and see what Canons answer to the Nikon D2X 12mp body are. Hopefully we will see one soon.
And I am very happy with my 1DMKII, and have no plans of parting with it any time soon. Now my 20D is another story, it could possibly go by by as soon as this rumored camera becomes available.

I use the 1DMK2, it is a woderful camera to use, very fast in use 8.5 fps you will catch almost any action at that rate and the high iso are amazing, this photo full size taken at iso 1600 with no noise reduction applied , the seond pic is 100% crop, see for your self, shot hand held 50mm mk2

If the three things you mentioned matter to you then get the MarkII. The extra 3 MP only matter in very large images -- how big do you want to print? The MarkII will easily make a great 16x20 print.

How far can you push this camera in large print area before you need the higher res , can it handle like 20x30 posters and will the 1Dmk11 out perform the 20D as far as poster printing goes seeing that they have the same 8ml censor does that mean they give you the same image quality or does the 1Dmk11 have more going on for better images with the same censor and lens , Im not comparing features just final large print image quality shot with the same L glass .

interesting subject, I'm thinking about Mark II not Ds, I'm not printing posters and with 20D and Mark II I can easily print 16x24 or so, camera it is not the only major factor for large printing, lenses and light is more important. Yes it is nice to have 16mPx but Ds is much slower and files are huge...IMHO

I'm confident the IDMKII can go 20x30, though I haven't tried mine at that size yet. By the way, the 20D and the MKII both have 8.XMP sensors, but they are not the same. The MKII's sensor is larger, hence the 1.3 crop factor vs the 1.6 crop factor

1D MkII
1Ds was king of the hill when it was released.. but it was very much eclipsed by the MkII...
Yes.. there are things the 1Ds does better than a 1D.. but there are many more things a 1D MkII does better...
Unless you are looking for a studio and landscape camera.. the MkII will be preferable.

With regards to the high ISO issue, I seem to recall the 1Ds has a maximum ISO of 1250... whereas the MkII gives you the option of 1600 and 3200.

I just did a 30x20 print for a customer from a 36mg file- 300D, it looked great so you should't ahve any probs' with the 1DMk11!

First those 2 cameras are meant for completely different use. I guess you need to decide for what do you want it. For myself 1Ds (even mk2) has never been even option. It's just way to slow. For someone else speed is not important but file size is. So it's up to you.
But since you mentioned higher iso. First 1Dmk2 goes up to iso 3200 (even though it's just software thing, but iso1600 is real) while 1Ds goes only to 1250 (or even lower). Second... photos of 1Ds at iso800 are same or even worse then those with 1dmk2 at iso1600. 1dmk2 is much better then old 1d with higher iso, but even old 1d was way better then 1Ds (no idea for 1Dsmk2). Another issue is of course speed. 1d is made for sport and pj work and this requires speed, while 1Ds is meant for studio where you don't really need 8fps etc.
