I was just checking to see if any one did get there new 10D today? Today seems to be the day that alot of people will get the first shipments. So what do you think of your new Canon 10D's. Any info will be good as I can't wait for mine to get to me next week or so.

Evangelos-
I'm in the same boat as you....but I am further down the list at Ritz. I'm staying totally cool on this- because the possibility of having a problem with the first run of 10D's is very high. It is pure luck- and hopefully the camera you get won't be built by a Canon "cell" of workers that was out "on the town" the night before. Although the use of small cells to assemble the 10D's enables them to produce more of them, the quality control aspect is more suspect in my opinion. After the D60 experience- I don't think I can handle another bad time with a second ("fixed D60") camera. If it happens though, I won't be terribly surprised. Good Luck!

I'm ready to shoot. It will actually get to me before the new lenses. Good thing I have 4 Canon lenses to play with in the mean time.

I just got some info that the first shipments are few and that alot of people are very surprised by the small shipments. I hope its not a repeat of the D60's wait time's of months and months or not at all. You think canon would learn there lesson. Lets hope so. Good luck.????

I'm expecting to pick mine up on Sat morning--I'll put up a post as soon as I get the box home and a battery in the camera.

I spoke with a Canon rep at PMA in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. He told me that Canon had been embarrassed by the backlog on D60's and was determined that the 10D launch would not be a repeat. He said that the Canon warehouse with 10,000 10D's awaiting shipment and expected the cameras to be in stores by the end of the week of Mar 10th (this week).

Let's see, 10,000 x $1499 = $14,990,000 of cameras at retail. Throw in a couple of CF cards, a lens or two, perhaps a grip or a flash. This just might be the thing the American economy needs to get rolling again. Well, at least it's a start.

What I'd like to know is if there's going to be anything left after everybody who pre-ordered gets theirs? Hope so.

No Pac Ace- actually Canon has already dis-continued production of the 10D after shipping just enough from Japan to fill the existing pre-backorders. The new 4Ds will be using the same sensor, but correcting the flaws of- & enhancing the the old 10D model. It's body is made of diffraction-grated clear polycarbonate so as to allow viewing of the circuit boards while still locking out light. The focusing system includes a string that you pull out to the point of focus. It still has USB 1 and a street price of $699. Pre-Pre-orders for it are already being taken by Psychic Photo in Big Sur California.

So if I take delivery of my new 10D on Saturday and quickly sell it on eBay do you think I can get $625 for it? And I'm wondering if I should hold on to my old grip and spare 511 battery--do you think they will fit the new 4D?

Not Sure Lziering- I hear that that the 4Ds has a new grip with a remote wallet weight sensor. If your wallet is too heavy, it disables the focusing circuitry. When that happens, the internal camera display scrolls an advertising message relayed from Canon using the imbedded (and not disableable) 802.11 card. That way you can auto-activate the paypal transfer to re-enable the focusing system- saving you having to buy a whole new camera! If you don't press the OK button in time, the batteries are shunted to the body panels causing the camera to heat up to 55c.
Can you tell it's Friday afternoon!

I hope that's 802.11z because that's what my whole house had been unwired to operate under.
