Hi guys~ I'm new to the world of DSLR so I hope you'll be able to help me out :) (thanks in advance)

Quick question: If I used an IR filter (e.g. Hoya R72) with my UNMODIFIED canon EOS500D with Tamron lens 18-200mm, would it harm my sensor? I asked a camera shop guy and he said that it's dangerous to use for a non-high end camera and if used wrongly, it could lead to serious damage.. But I reaaaally wanna take IR photos without tampering with my camera.. Please advice. Thanks~!

I'm pretty sure using an IR filter cannot damage your camera, you not exposing it to any MORE IR light just filtering out the rest of the spectrum.

You need to find another camera dealer.
