Just got off the phone with one of my local camera stores (Massey's Camera in Williamsburg, VA). They have the 10D in stock (they got 2, one gone, the other guy flaked out, so I confirmed I would pick the second up by 5pm today).

The other store in the area (Camera City, Hampton, VA)got 3 of 12 they ordered with one more scheduled to come in on this production run, but all 3 were spoken for.

Faster then waiting for on-line to deliver, may cost more though.

Will confirm tonight (maybe, if I stop playing with it long enough to go on-line).

Just had to post this ;-)

Go Tim!
Give us the first real report. Give us a few macros! Write a seat-of-the pants first impressions review.

Got it.

First Impressions,
Autofocus, WOW it works.

550EX works, BG-3D grip works, old d-60 adapter works.

I like the new USB port, I mostly like the new positions of the buttons.
The focus points are much easier to access for selection.
On/Off switch in better place, bit stiffer.

Nuetral:
I actually like the mode dial on the D60 slightly better, but think that is just because I am used to it.

While not below, I did the 4 minute lens cap on in dark room test, actually I think I went 5 minutes, got phone call in middle. No purple that I could see, but may have processed wrong.

What I don't like..
1. Stupid software doesn't work the way I am used to.
2. Adobe doesn't have patch for 10D for RAW converter (hour long phone conversation with Adobe tech support confirmed this, not even on the horizon yet.
3. Does not come with AC adapter. Good thing I have a D60 AC Adapter.
4. You can blind someone with the LCD screen on high (maybe that should be a like) :-)

That's it so far.
Have model shoot tomorrow, confirmed - two models, we shall se how it does in a real test, where I am firing away at 100+ frames per hour.

Sample Images

all have been cropped but otherwise untouched and at default settings "P" mode, Jpeg lg fine, AWB
all were taken with 50/1.4 lens

Canon D60 and me - taken by 10D with 500EX (approx 340k file size):

Canon D60 and me - taken with 10D with onboard flash (approx 279k file size) [yes I need to work on depth of field]

Canon 10D and me - plain - taken with D60 with onboard flash (approx 284k file size) (otherwise known as Proof)

Good luck to the rest of you

Bob

I forgot the macro thing.
I am willing to do some tests, if someone doesn't do them first. However, I only have so much equipment

I have the following at this time.
Canon 10D Kit
Canon D60 Kit
50/1.4
16-35 L
28-135 IS
75-300 IS
100-400 L IS
(okay and a lousy 28-80 Tamron)

two 550EX flashes
BG-3D battery grip
3 batteries
some filters 16-35, 100-400 and 75-300 lenses

and Tripods, Studio lights, backdrops, and two camera bags (one hard case, one Tamrac 612)
oh and PS7.0 with Raw converter (that doesn't work with 10D yet)

If you want to get picky I also have a Kodak DC4800 and a Hassleblad 500 EL/M

Let me know what tests you want run - limited to no more then 5 minutes of camera time per test.
I will check on Saturday Morning and see if I can post by Sunday.

So far no manufacturing defects with my 10D Camera I can see.
Design defects will have to wait until I get some more sessions under my belt.

Got my 10D this evening. So far I like what I see. The one feature that I found really helpful is the zoom on the LCD. I did find the ISO 3200 grainy. In all fairness I did try it in very low light. The autofocus is a lot qicker than my D30. They did not include a compact flash card. Have a photo story to shoot in the morning. Will post results.

Not yet, Chris is waiting for Canon to release the new SDK.

If you're comfortable with a hex editor, you can patch it yourself. Instructions can be found at http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/25906 .

Not that I would ever edited adobe's software in violation of the silly license agreement (wink, wink).

It works great though ;-) Although I did have to down load a hex editor first after I figured out what it was)

It seemed so easy, why could not Adobe create a temporary patch for the plug-in (I would think it would take about 3 hours of work for a software guy). And then follow it up with a 0.02 patch that actually uses the information from Canon, just to be on the safe side.
Just my opinion.
