Hi all!

I'm flying next month to El paso and then by car to Austin and back for 5days, I've never been in USA in general and my wife (american) has no idea either about this area. So my question is which places should I visit while there that are photogenic? Google gave me some ideas but I'm sure there are places that I haven't found yet. Anything from nice landscapes to interesting architecture is welcome.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you :)

El Paso itself has some scenic locations. A road over the hills between the East side and the West side. There are also a few old mission buildings and the Tiqua Indian Reservation (small- 2 city blocks) with adobe lodges.
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has buildings that use an architecture style from the country of Bhutan.
Get a tourist book for El Paso.

Stay on the US side of the border.

Most of that area is wide open, semi desert with a few small mountains.
Early morning and evening may be best.

I have seen a Luftwaffe passenger plane parked at the El Paso airport because pilots come over to train in that area.

As you drive along you will see some scenic spots. Keep your camera ready and pull off the road and get some shots.

Austin is more rolling hills with trees. The University of Texas at Austin is large and interesting. The state capital is there.

Thank you for the information! Do you think I should get a UWA? Was thinking about the Sigma 10-20 but I'm not sure if I need it.

I live in Austin. You will want to hit these spots for photos.

in Austin

1. Mount Bonnell - http://www.austinparks.org/apfweb/park.php?parkId=287
2. Pennybacker Bridge over Lake Austin - http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks/loop_360.asp ** there is also a short hike up to a cliff that overlooks the bridge and Lake Travis
3. walk around downtown - 4th street to 6th street up Congress toward Capital

nearby

Enchanted Rock - http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/enchanted_rock/ * maybe 1 hour drive towards San Antonio, you could hit that on your way to Austin
Fredricksburg, Tx - downtown is cool
Luckenbach, Tx - the smallest town and oldest post office in Texas - http://www.luckenbachtexas.com/, near Fredricksburg

The 360 bridge over look is amazing. I did a quick Google search for a good image, here it is (http://photos.ryonday.com/gallery/1030897_K6oj8/1/47811825_rJYsr#47811825_rJYsr). The Austin state capital is also pretty awesome to see. It's also open pretty late into the evening. If you're a people watcher, just spend a few minutes in a public place and you'll be amazed. You might even get to see Leslie.
