I was down in the Florida Keys yesterday just relaxing an i took some pictures with my 50D. However most of the images came out somewhat grainy. The one thing I did do that I haven't done in the past was to stack 2 Singh Ray filters, a LB Color Intensifier and an LB Warming Polarizer. As a result I had to increase the exposure and sometimes the ISO, but with the ISO i never went over 400, as a matter of fact I usually shot at about 100 or 200.

So the question is can stacking the filters case the grainy effect if not what could have?

Here are some images.

I see what you are talking about.. If you are using the SR Glass filters then there should be no real problems, I've stacked an ND 8 and and ND grad before with a warming filter and never got any grain (mind you this was for film in 1080, but the same concept holds true). However if you are using the cheapo polyester filters then stacking would most definitely cause aberrations and other sorts of anomalies.

I hope this helps.

I contacted Singh Ray about this. He asked me to forward him images and upon reviewing them he agreed something wasn't right. He also asked me to send him both filters so he can do some testing. Right now I'm waiting for the results, but in the mean time he's sending me to new filters to replace the ones in question.

I have to say SR has really looked out for me with this. Dr. Bob Singh was very professional and extremely attentive. I'm very impressed.
