Actually - out of the box - the A60 takes WAY better macro shots.......thats the truth.

Probably because out of the box the 1Ds MKII doesn't have a lens :)

I would actually agree with this. No idea about macro, but it goes for landscape too. Out of box I would dare to say, compact cameras have better colors then 1d. Not sharper, with right dof etc, but they do have better colors. Once when you set your 1d as you should, then it's compeletely different thing, but out of box 1d really has boring colors. Maybe they are real but being used to Velvia they do feel boring :)

I thought the 10D looked a bit desaturated, then I got the 1D, that was even worse. Mind you not all high end digital cameras are like that. The P25 back is as saturated as they come.

It's everything to do how much the camera processes the image.

Of course P&S camera have better colors.. the 1Ds only comes in black.. now you take a camera like that stylish little Olympus.. it comes in dozens of available colors... Much better IMHO...

Yeah isn't the A400 available in a whole slew of colors.

I've a friend who just an S2 IS. "SuperMacro" mode on that is from 0 to 10 inches. Could get some great photos of bug guts squished over the front of the lens when you moved too close with that camera.

Actually it took us a while to figure out that when they said press the macro button to get into macro mode they meant press and release. When they said press it again to get into bug squishing SuperMacro they meant press and hold. A very annoying difference not explained in the manual.
