I am wondering if anyone hass ever tried doing some studio style photos outdoors??

I dont have any space that I could use as a studio, or even a room that really is big enough or gets enough light. I was kinda thinking that perhaps I could try just setting it up outdoors, but wondered if anyone had ever tried this??

if so, how did it work out?

suggestions/tips?

thanks!
Amy

Do you mean with backdrops and all, or just the lighting?

Being more serious, all of the studio equipment can be (and often is) used outdoors.

What makes a studio shot a "studio" shot is not the equipment, it is the control over the ambient conditions that you get from having 4 walls and a roof.

I mean like using a backdrop and maybe a faux floor.... but using the outdoor lighting. Because I dont have the space indoors and I dont have a lighting setup.

Many people shoot in their garages. Door open, background and natural light.

Since studio work is about controlling the lighting more than it is a cloth background I wouldnt call that an outdoor studio.

Studio work is about controlling every light. Outdoors is the same thing, you just have to base your ratios off the sun (if it's out) since you can't adjust it easily.

I've always liked the idea of strobes outdoors. Schedules don't normally permit me to shoot in perfect outdoor lighting. With a few off-camera flash units you can make you're own "perfect outdoor lighting". Kind of like the outdoor studio you're talking about I think.
