I am looking for some advice. I am not a professional, but an enthusiastic amateur. I take photos for the school where I teach. I have been asked to take all of the photos for the school's yearbook next year. I have a Canon 10D on order and I own a 380 EX flash. I know that it doesn't have the power for large groups inside the gymnasium, so I checked prices for a more powerful flash. The 550 EX is too expensive right now. I read several postings in other forums from pros using a Vivitar 285 HV with their Canon set up and getting good results. I am aware of the trigger voltage situation and I would likely use the Wein device or a slave device and trigger with the camera's flash. Any advice about this potential set up? I figure that if the exposure is off that I can adjust and get the right exposure. I may be WAY off with all of this, but it is a thought. Thanks

I don't think there is a trigger voltage problem anymore, but can someone reassure me? Just got the Vivitar last week.

I have 3 - 550EX flashes.......None are consistent. I like a Vivitar 283(or 285) better. I get better coverage and if you use it on a Quantum battery, you get fast recycle too...You'd think that Canon could do better for the $ they charge for that flash...Brian

Tested mine with a volt meter and the trigger voltage is just above 6V. Seems that there is no problem.
