I let my brother borrow my lens over a month ago, worth $600. I called him the following weekend and he said he would swing by and return it the next day. Since then I have called him numerous times and no answer or call back. I shot him a quick text asking him if the lens is still all good and well. No reply. I just tried to call him. I gotta tell you, I didn't expect him to do me wrong like this.

Disappearing with someone else's lens is even less cool.

Oh, didn't mean to quote you. I meant the stealing of the lens part is not cool. I think the kneecapping part he probably deserves.

Could it be possible that he's lost his phone...?
Or maybe he's had a serious accident (or worse) and can't return calls or his phone has been damaged?
Have any other family members been in contact with him recently? If not, perhaps your first thoughts should be for your brother's wellbeing and not about a $600 lens that can easily be replaced.

I would assume that unless the family really don't talk, any bad news about the brother would have travelled pretty quickly.
Which makes me worry about the lens!
Take a trip over with Luigi and Alfonso - this needs "treatment"! :D

The OP broke the cardinal rule: NEVER loan anything you want to keep to a family member.
You watch, now. No matter how this works out, it'll be the OP's fault for causing a breach in the family, not the brother's for misappropriating/misusing his lens.

I lent my 18mm Zeiss to my partner. Unfortunately I won't see him or it for 4 months.

You call this dirty family washing, good grief, flip on Springer and be completely blown away. Annoyances are far from "dirty family washing". There is always one....

Nah. I am not that upset about it. I was the weekend he said he was going to return as I wanted to use it for a special occasion. He would take care of any issues if there were/are any. Not only that, he is not someone I would tangle with.

Since when is krapping on someones thread encouraged. I would have thought that someone with 13k+ posts would have been a tad bit more restrained. Oh well, moving right along.

I talked to him last night and he says he is coming by today to drop it off. Hope he holds up to that as I am gearing up for vacation soon.

The OP broke the cardinal rule: NEVER loan anything you want to keep.
Period. If you CRINGE at the thought of losing it forever, don't loan it out.
I lent someone an item over a year and a half ago. Not only am I not getting it back - he's abused it and wants to replace it for me, but he wants to make the replacements rather than buy it where I bought mine. I said the money would be adequate, but still have nothing. i should have known better.
I just made plans to loan out a lens to a friend. BUT! it's the kit lens. I upgraded, and only keeping the kit lens to include when I sell the body. She'll give it back if I need to sell the body, and besides, she just loaned a flatscreen monitor to my fiance for half a year, which we just gave back. If I don't get the lens back, well that's her baby shower present! :D (her lens got scratched, and she's broke and pregnant. In fact, I may just tell her to keep it when her shower comes around!)
