S2, TC, and polarizer

Got a bit of a surprise today. My TC for the S2 arrived, as well as the Tiffen 58 mm circular polarizer that I purchased on ebay.

The polarizer fits onto the adapter, but..... the teleconverter is too deep to screw on to the polarizer.

This always worked very well with the old S1, so what is the deal here, does anyone know?

Is that "Beach" scene supposed to substitute for a polarizer?

i think its more to do with giving extra exsposure to allow for the bright sand .
