For those of you who live near a Fry's Electronics store, and if you are shopping for big CF cards, they are selling a Kingston 2GB Elite Pro CF card for $100. The speed rating on it is called "50x", so it is neither the very fastest out there, nor is it slow. I've been using 40x speed up until now.
I formatted it and am writing some very large files to it now for a test. It looks good.
The ability to hold 210-220 RAW files (Canon 20D) on one card should be handy for a long trip.

Here in the UK they are available for just over £80 from http://www.memory247.co.uk/products/125 which must be about the cheapest 2gb in the UK. They are rated very well on RG's CF databse.

Does anyone own one in a 20D (planned upgrade!) - what is the difference compared to an Ultra II - is it noticeable?
Anyone use the Integral i-pro cards??

I have the 1GB Kingston Elites and they cost me roughly what you are now paying for the 2GB...
Going to the fastest writing card on a 10D is a waste anyway (as I understand it).

Carzee - Even going to the fastest writing card on a 20D is a waste.
I have a 2 GB Sandisk Extreme III and in camera it's no faster than a Standard Sandisk CF card.
So why spend the money on the fastest CF cards? Spend it on bigger CF cards if needed.

Valid argument, but it only applies if and only if the user plans on only using the CF cards on the current camera body. As bodies improve, so do their write speeds. Having to continually buy new CF cards to meet the new write speeds may, in the long run, be the true waste of money.

I'm fixing to go to Fry's to get one, but have one question. I've looked online and don't find anything that says whether it is or isn't a microdrive. I have found that the Elite Pro is available in SD, so I'm thinking it has to be flash and not a microdrive, but for the price, I just have to ask. Like I said, I'm walking out the door in about a half hour to head that way, so if I find out I'll post, but if anyone posts before that to let me know (and possibly save the trip), I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hopmedic - If I'm correct Kingstone does not have Microdrive's. But even if they do you can see it on the card itself.
If it is a microdrive it's noted on the card. If you are not shure you can feel it on the weight.
Take a CF card with you so you can compare them togheter. The Microdrive's are heavyer.
But in my opinion you don't have to worry about buying a MD or a solid state CF card.
They wil sell you a CF card and not a MD.

I have both; the 2G Kingston Pro and a 1G Sandisk Ultra II. Both of these cards work fine in my 20D. There's no hesitation while to writing to memory. I shoot a large number of pics when I'm out and I depend heavily on a reliable CF card.
I got my 2G Kingston Pro from buy.com as well. Good price!

Man this makes you think twice before going for one of those P-2000s. You can get 10gigs of CF storage for the same price!

Well, I bought it - it is NOT a microdrive. Had to get more memory - 1GB just will NOT be enough for me over the next couple days - camping on the airport at Whitman Regional Airport, in OshKosh, Wisconsin, taking part in AirVenture 2005. Can't wait! Leaving in the am!
