I recently bought a canon rebel xt and it comes with a lexar platinum 512mb 40x compact flash card. I went out today to take a lot of test shots (over 500 in jpeg), and came home and found out that two of the images were corrupted/unreadable. Has anyone have such problem before? Is it a camera issue or a memory card issue?

Speak to whom you bought it from or to Lexar, Lexar cards are great but there has been some problems in using them with the 350D/XT. I've not heard that it was a problem with the 512mb cards, I thought it was the larger ones but maybe it's all of them. I think it's to do with the cards firmware from memory. Anyway, thats where I would start, with the card first as it's the simplest, cheapest and most easy to try out. I prefer the Sandisk Ultra II cards myself as I had problems with some of the other brands.

Don't think that problem affected the 40x cards. Here's the relevant thread: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=78527. Did you perhaps do something on the camera that might have interupted the saving of the file? Check your camera's manual for things you can't do when the camera is "busy".

This is just a random opinion with no reaserch involved but: I was having the same problem with my 300D and my 1 Gig PNY card. I believe many of my corupted files were due to me turning the camera OFF while the file was still being writen. I don't know if this is for sure the case, or if it is even Supposed to happen that waay, but since I stopped doing it, I haven't had any corupted files......
Bad habits die hard though.....lol

I checked the canon website (http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/BeBit-e.html), the latest firmware for the 350d is 1.0.2, which is what I am using.
As Grimmar mentioned, looks like there are some issues when using the 350d with lexar cards, as discussed here: http://whatdigitalcamera.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/2,16,3,8,7,11/Number/237344/an/0/page/0
