Whats up? I've been trying to get a deal on the 50mm mkII for a while now from ebay. But everyone keeps buying the used lenses for more than new ones cost from B&H!! I'm thinking I may just break down and buy 5 new ones from B&H and sell 4 of them on ebay for a profit! Looks like thats the only way I'm gonna get a deal.
Ebay: (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7531974821&category=4687&rd=1)

LOL yes this has been talked about here alot. People just get caught up in bidding wars and forget about what the lens cost new and where they should have drawn the line and move on. I really think it's like a gambling addiction to be honest with you. I just can't for the life of me figure out why someone would pay more for a used lens that they can get cheaper new. Go figure.

This happens a lot on eBay. That is why it is good to shop around for the things that you want. There are some good deals on eBay, but you really have to look for them and wait. I bought my 28-135mm IS with filters for $299USD almost brand new because someone wanted to unload it on Buy It Now option. I've also sold quite a few things on eBay and got more that I expected to get out of it only because people will go into a bidding war over them.
I have found that eBay is a good barometer of how much people are willing to pay in order to "win" something!

I sold a 50 with a couple of filters for way more than it cost new, and a 100 f/2 for about $10 more than what I originally paid for it when I bought it on ebay.
Gotta love those impulse bidders.
Just figure out what you want to pay, stick your bid in for that and then just leave it and see.

You have to pay attention on ebay and set a limit before. Problem is people sometimes don't pay attention. Very bad habit that can really harm you.

I purchased the Elan 7N w/ kit lens last summer and sold them for what I paid on ebay this summer. (this funded my 10-22mm EFS) Got to use a film SLR free for a year before going digital, you can't complain about that :D

I get a kick out of watching bidding wars. Sometimes you can just feel when the bidders have lost all sense of reality. There have been times where I've bid to just under the retail price in a war between others, just to watch them run way over retail. I'll wait for a pause in the run-up, sneak in a bid, and sit back and laugh. Twits.

Ha, I'd love to! Unfortunately my budget just won't allow. I'm trying to get myself the 50mm 1.8 and the 28-135mm IS for now. I may upgrade later though, at least I know I'll be able to get my money back on the 1.8 if I ever want to upgrade!! :)

I bought my Kenko stuff from a Hong Kong seller for their 'Buy it Now' price and got a great deal. However many other 'But it Now' prices are higher than retail as well, especially those listed in Great Britain or England. They must just be looking for a sucker.

I wish people would quit getting into the "I have to be the highest bidder" mindset..really drives the prices for stuff up...
