When I bought my XT I got a Sandisk Extreme 1 GB for around $105. Fortunately, I stayed away from the Lexar, and it is apparant there were a number of 350D/Lexar problems.

Now, I'm in the market for more memory. How big of a difference is the Sandisk Ultra II and the Extreme? For that matter, is there much of an appreciable or noticable difference between the various *X cards; Kingston, Delkin Sandisk?

I saw a thread where the Extream write speeds were not that much faster than the Ultra II... we are talking about .3 megs/sec faster. Write speed on the Extream III was 5.9 megs/sec

After reviewed that thread, i purchased two SanDisk Ultra II and ONE 4 gig microdrive. Micro drive wasnt that slow either, 3.5 megs/sec. If your not shooting continious, its fantastic. Its still faster than a 40X lexar card.

About the only difference you will notice between the two cards - SanDisk Ultra II and SanDisk Extreme when used in your XT is the price.

I don't think you will notice the difference between them except for the price. Be careful with some of the brands with the fast write speeds on the 350D/XT as I have had problems with using some myself, these cards were perfectly good cards that just give a few hic-ups* when used in the 350D/XT. Can't remember the name of all but I think one was Silicon power, I've used the slower cards by them without problems just seems to be the Ultra range.

I got a 2 gb Sandisk Extreme because it is supposed to be better for very hot or cold temperatures. I wanted it for photographing ski races and winter scenery. I don't think they are rated any faster than the Ultra CF cards so if you are not using your camera in very hot or very cold conditions there is probably no advantage of paying the higher price of an Extreme.
