I was looking at the 550 but wanted to know if the flash works off your battery in the camera or do you need a battery belt etc?
Thanks

It works off little AAs, or a belt unt if your rich.
And if you are going to call your 550EX stupid you should see another thread about abusing your equipment....:lol:

And forget the Duracells. Buy a few sets of rechargable AA NiMH batteries and a charger.
You will thank me later.

Happy shooting with your 550EX. I love mine and am really pleased I bought it. As Curtis has said though, do buy some rechargable batteries and a charger.
As far as I'm concerned, the only downer of the 550EX is its weight. It really is on the heavy side, so maybe you'd better try one on your camera before buying. It's a piece of equipment I don't carry with me unless I know I'm going to need it.

Even the weight is subjective. I am coming from a Canon T70 with an FD 35-105 two touch and a Sunpak 555. My 300D with the 550EX is not heavy at all. Not balanced as well as the T70 w/Sunpak but not heavy.
