Hey guys.

Tell me what you think. I have very little portrait experience, but i was happy with the 'artistic' element of this one. I much prefer it in B&W but mainly because i over exposed her cheek i think.........

Taken with 300d - with my new baby, the magical 50mm 1.8 II.
Location - afternoon winter sun under a tree fern in the Botanic Gardens, Melbourne AUS.

Cheers.
Keir.

it is good pics, but to my eye it a little too much between highlight and showdow on her face, I would fill flash a little to make light a little bit even... IMHO

First I like the concept.. but as AjP says the difference between the highlights and the shadow area are too extreme for such a pleasent pose. Harsh shadows tend to lead to very moody shots... and she doesn't match that mood. Keep the deep background - it makes her standout - just raise the levels on face some on the shadowed side. Other then that - very nicely done shot of a lovely lady.

let me add one more twist.... what doesn't work in a 2 x 5 inch image often does work 11 x 14 inches where you can see the detail in the subtleness so advice you get here may not apply. Big imagases lend themselves to subtleness. little images need pop to stand out. for what it is worth. cheers.

Works nicely in both colour and b&W, not bad really. just keep working at it!

I think the b&w works really well for the composition and the style........I also think a more serious facial expression would have worked better, particularly for the 'mysterious' angle.

Nice lighting. I think that you did a good job, but I would crop it in just a little. The B&W is best.
