I'm guessing he means apps for Android based smartphones, specifically the Motorola Droid.

I haven't found any that actually work. The Photoshop app for Droid sucks. They will bring more out before we know it.

I really hope they get their butts in gear. I love the iPhone apps, just not AT&Ts coverage, if they can cross over some of them to the droid it'd be heaven.

I LOVE the new Gallery in 2.1. I don't carry any pictures in my wallet, but I always have tons of pictures in my Droid!

Can't wait for Froyo!

Do they have any fart apps yet though? That's what I'm waiting for. Nothing beats a good fart sound, timed right and in the right place.

A battery monitoring app would be good too.. maybe made in Flash?

;-)

I kid, because I love.

I try the free apps.

Pro Paint Camera
Camera Magic

Photo Tools- collection of tools in one app

non-photo-specific but likely useful:
Tide Prediction
Moon Phase
Sundroid Free

One or more of the weather apps might be useful as well.
There are plenty of apps out there that might be applied to a business as well. calendar, expense, mileage, time and so on trackers.

I like the "vignette" app. tons of cool filters. I wish they would release a "Best Camera" app like Chase Jarvis' app for the iPhone. Not likely since he loves him some Apple. It would be nice to be able to run multiple filters.

On another note, anyone have the Droid X? I've sent two back due to focus issues (who the hell would have ever thought a phone would have focus issues), but finally got a decent one.

One of the reason I didn't buy an X when it came out. I heard that might be one of the minor glitches. I'll wait until 2nd Gen comes out and pick one up.

Anyone use CamCalc? I use the free version, has a lot of good stuff in it from what I have used so far.

Menus are:

Depth of Field
Field of View
Focal Length Equivalents
Flash Calculations
Color Temp. Conversion
Miniatures
Solar Calculations
Exposure Compensation

there's an app called "light meter". I haven't really used it yet, but I think it would be great as a companion to an old manual camera

Has a selection of categories of filters each with sub-cats. You take the photos within the app and it seems to focus better. It also kills the shutter noise.

Here are a few I took with the app and it's filters.

It wasn't a free app, but it's been worth it. I think it was like four bucks on the app store.

Funny thing was it focused fine with the vignette app...go figure. Even though I use that as my default camera it still irks me when stuff don't work as it should.

Verizon hates me, I'm sure. I just came from blackberry....went through about 6 Storm 2's due to software issues. One rep actually told me I was being too picky (not in those words, but the meaning was there). I told that we could avoid all this if they would just let me get another phone....lol...So here I am with a 3rd Droid X...so far, so good...;)

have a look for FxCamera. this is only a small app but it takes the picture and then converts it into another type of image such as a fisheye shot... kinda fun.

also the light meter apps are alright. used on and it was only slightly off. but what do you expect.

I was looking for an app to turn off the camera sound but one day I had my phone on vibrate and noticed the camera was quiet. I discovered that if you turn the volume all the way down the camera makes no sound. I wish someone had told me to turn the volume down before I spent all that time looking through the camera menus for the camera mute button.

Hey, Joe. If you turn the phone to vibrate, the camera will be silent. Just an FYI. ;)

+1 on FxCamera, it's free but has alot of filters/effects you can play around with. It can also substitute as a basic camera w/ no effects.

I just came upon PhotoFunia. Let's you put pics in a lot of different settings. Snapped the original with the "Vignette" app using the "Paris" filter....then tool it into Photofunia, and then uploaded to flickr using UpStream.

Photo Tools has already been mentioned and I just downloaded it. I have only had a couple of hours to play with it but it looks promising. It has a DoF/Hyperfocal calculator, sunrise/sunset calculator, moon phase calculator plus a lot more. I tried CamCalc and it had several of the same options but I noticed it showed the Canon APS-C with a 1.5 multiplication factor. I am not sure about Photo Tools but it does have a few more options.

I would love an app like this. I wonder if there is a way to use an Eye-fi card and Droid. I know it wouldn't be available in the CF card, but for SD, would be nice.

Edit: There is an iPhone App for Eye-fi. Apparently, there is a Droid app, too, but have had major issues with it.

I use the crap out of my phone, too. However, I do have a couple games (all free) on my phone that I will kill a few minutes with. Mostly to wind down after a long night. I have never been a big gamer, anyway.

Has anyone found a reliable geo logging program? I have tried two and both quit logging at some point. Tried GPSLogger (http://gpslogger.codeplex.com/) yesterday and it quit mid way through my trip. Unfortunately, I don't remember the first logger I installed that was very erratic in operation. It seems the loggers need to keep working through use of other program including those that use the GPA functions of the phone.

Not to be a smart ass... but I use a pocket sized notebook... I tried the GPS thing... and it never worked right.. so.. I carry a small notebook and a pen with me... I write IMG #'s 0605 - 0913 - Santa Clara, CA ... it works well for me... but I don't need to know exact GPS locations for my pictures.. it's more for my own benefit, so as I categorize them and organize them, I can remember where I was when I took the shots... my wife and I used this method for our honeymoon in CA last winter... worked like a charm!!

Tom_D

Nothing smart-ass about it and I carry a notebook in my pocket for work and have often thought that a note about what I was thinking when I was taking a series of photos would be a good thing. I just don't do it.

I have used a couple of GPS loggers with mixed results but when it does work it is neat and nice to be able to click on the link in Light Room and go right to a map of where I was.

Having it all in my phone seems like a good idea and others seem to have thought so also as there are several apps available. Like I said in my original post I am looking for one that works.

Also, they have a Time-Lapse app (actually a couple) for using your Droid to shoot and process some mobile time-lapse stuff.

I just downloaded the one called "Time-Lapse". Have not had a chance to really test it out, but I am looking forward to giving it a whirl. The little playing around with it I did, it seemed to work pretty flawlessly, but have not run it through the full paces yet.

I personally like to use...

Advanced Task Killer (saves battery life)
GoldenPic (Provides Sunrise/set, Golden/Blue Hours, GPS Coordinates and weather)
TiKL (Can take up a lot of battery, but it allows you to use your Android phone like a Nextel with push to talk)
GDocs (Allows you to access and edit any documents you have saved in Google Docs)
TeamViewer (Allows you to remotely connect to and control your home PC)

For my "fun" apps, I like...
Air Control Lite
Blow Up (LITE)
Today in Geek History
Today in Movie History
Pacific Wings
