Right, a quick question, I want to crop a picture to 6x4 proportions, however I don't want it to crop the image down to a physical sizer of 6x4.

Any tips, bit stuck!

I don't remember about PS CS but in CS2 there croping tool and at the top you specify demetions 6x4 or 4x6 and drag croping as much as you want over the image

Yea, but that crops it to 6x4 inches, not the basic proportion of that size.

instead of putting 6in x 4in in the parameters, you can also put the number of pixels to crop. Say you had a 1600x1200, you could choose something like 1600 x 1070 pix (I believe you can just type "pix" in there)

Let us know if that's what you mean.

Cropping to a given pixel count will also resize the pixels inside the selected area, using (I assume) the default "Image Interpolation" mode.

You may wish to crop to a given proportion without resizing the pixels if you want to defer the pixel resizing so that you can select bicubic smoother or bicubic sharper depending on whether you are up- or down-sizing.

Use the Rectangular Marquee command and set the style to "Fixed Aspect Ratio" with the desired aspect ratio. Invert the selection (Control-Shift-I) and press the "Delete" key to remove the image outside of the original selection. Use the Image==>Trim command to remove the outside pixels, and then use the "Image Size" command to resize to the desired number of pixels using the desired interpolation option. This is obviously more work than using the crop tool, but it allows you to specify the interpolation mode on a case-by-case basis for critical images.

Choose Rectangular Selection (top left on toolbar) - change Style to Fixed Aspect Ratio and enter Width 6 Height 4. Make selection on photo, then go to Image - Crop. Only crops enough of the photo to get to desired ratio but does not resize.
