In a couple of week, I will be doing a photo shoot for a band, whose manager says he wants full rights to use. I will be chatting to him before/after the gig and obviously I want to charge them for the photoshoot

should I a) get a release form limiting them to such 'full rights'? i.e. I have to be credited for such work..watermark with my name on it etc.. b) should I include that if they use it for album covers etc..I should get a small percentage of money?

sounds like he is looking for a buyout, so talking about watermarks or percentage of sales from any use isn't warranted here.

figure out a price you are comfortable, or rights restrictions you want written in, and go from there

Yeah, I see what you mean here, but if I want to start earning from photography, I really need the credit, how would I go about getting credit for the photos?

if you want to earn $ (or in your case, £), then money is more important than credit. i'm still kind of unclear as to what you are looking for.

Allow for use of the photo on your personal website in your license. Sell the photo. Take the money. Then create an area on your website to show the work you have done and for whom and promote yourself.

I the point you are making, but in order to get more commissions, plus get magazine(s) to call you up, because I put a watermark on the photo would seem a good idea, I see it on magazines, let alone books

Maybe I could go for that as well

manager says he wants full rights to use.

That implies nothing more to me than simply a very broad license. You can write a contract that specifies you retain ownership of the copyright and also extend to the group (not the manager--the group as an entity, IMO) the right to use the image any way they want for as long as they want.
