OK, not sure which section to pur this under, so I thought 'General' will do.

I have several thousand family slides that we would like to scan going back to around 30 years ago.

Given the number should I be going out and buying a scanner, or using an attachment for either my G3 or 20D?

Any thoughts?

I bought a good quality flatbed scanner and did my slide collection. The Epson scanner came with templates to hold 4 mounted slides at a time. I got specialist software to process and ended up with acceptable results. The task is a laborious one and 30years is a hell of a lot of slides!

This was my solution (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=58609&highlight=cobble) & it worked pretty well. Depends on how much resolution you need. 6MP is enough for me, but a scanner will give you more at the price of more time waiting for it to finish.
