I like the capture you were going for but I think it could have used a little longer exposure.

Thanks for the advice I was worried about losing the feel of night if it got any brighter, but I am going to go back later and try again. I just cant believe how clear the swans were considering the exposure was like 20 sec. I figured they would be one big white floating streak

Well if you have Adobe Photoshop what you can do is go under "Image" "Adjustments" "Shawdo/Hilights" and it will look like below. (hope you don't mind me trying something with it for example). With the shawdow and hilights lifted a bit it becomes a much more striking image.
