I just bought a G1 and am very happy with it so far.
I have taken a few pictures in the JPEG format at the 2048X1536 resolution.
When I save the image and email it to family around the world and they open the file, the picture is HUGE. All you see is one huge leaf, or part of a nose...
The same happens when I open the file on my PC with Win98.
My screen res. is set at 800X600.
As I like to print the good pictures on my printer, I don't really want to decrease the resolution.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Simple... just reduce the size of the images that you email down to 640X480 using an image editing program like Photoshop (which ships with the G1). The menu items in Photoshop 5 are: Image>Image SIze. Set the pixel dimenions to width of 640 (the height should automatically reduce down to 480 pixels).

1) In case you use Internet Explorer as a viewer - just download the latest version IE 6.0 from www.microsoft.com This version has auto image size option /automatic reducing of the image size to the size of your screen/. Using an enlarge button on the picture you could enlarge the picture as well.
2) Better way is using ACDSee browser - it has option for auto image size (shrink to fit window/screen) and PgUp/PgDn for browsing the pictures from the folder on full screen.

Those files are really too big for email and screen viewing. Make a copy and resample it down to perhaps 640 x 480. Save and email that. Make sure you work on a copy, since you will need the additional resolution for prints.
