View Full Version : Flying (airplane) with camera and lenses, anything I should know?

My spouse and I are going on a trip out West in Canada and we will be flying for about 8 hours. My spouse gave me the Primus AW for my birthday (yay) and I will use it as my carry-on.

This might sound like a silly question but then again, this is the very first time I will be flying with a camera. Is there anything I should know when flying with a camera? Like cabin pressure damaging lenses, put lenses in ziplock bags, or whatever like it? What about the tripod?

Thanks and regards,

Vincent

Assuming you are going to be flying in an enclosed and pressurized cabin of a commercial aircraft you should have no problems at all with your camera. Many people take pics out the window and post them on here as well. Have fun!

Ive flown with my camera countless times and usually don't get a second look through security. I recently flew with a tripod as part of my carry on and had no issues there either.

It really depends on your airline and their carryon limits. Just make sure you stuff fits within their regulations. DO NOT check your gear if you dont absolutley have to, the 'throwers' are someone I would'nt trust my gear to.

Id ask ahead about the tripod to make sure, every airline is different, day to day usually. If youre going to be checking a large bag, just stick it in there worst case. I had no problems with my gear minus a tripod when I flew last month. All I had to do was remove my laptop from the bag first, they didnt give it a second look
