On Sunday of last week, my wife's Canon A75 refused to respond to the zoom switch, would only display the last picture taken in the review mode and the Menu button didn't work. On Monday morning, I called Canon technical support. I was told to send in the camera and the sales receipt (we bought the camera on line in October 2004). I copied the shipping label from the box and included it... the receipt had slipped away.
Six days later I received an e-mail that the camera had been received and pending an inspection, would be made free of charge. The repaired camera was returned today, nine calendar days from shipping it away. They replaced the hand grip cap and upgraded the firmware.
We're happy campers.

Just curious, but had you previously sent in the warranty card to activate the warranty before the camera had problems?

Yup, the warranty card was mailed in when we received the camera. Not sure if they cross-check or not.
We've bought a lot of Canon digicams... gifts for our kids, three for us (including my EOS 20D) and I included that info in the letter I enclosed with the camera. Might be that customer loyalty paid off.

Thanks.
I'm seeing a pattern here. I know at least a dozen people (friends, relatives, co-workers) that have sent their Canon cams in for warranty repairs in the past year or so, and those that had sent in their warranty card early got the best/fastest service.
I've never had to send a cam in to Canon for warranty repairs (knock on wood), and I usually keep the warranty card in the camera box, but I might consider sending them in ASAP from now on...
