My 300D wasia hack enabled acted up yesterday for the first time after using it for a long time without a hitch. Camera was fine at the restaurant but started the overexposing problems when we got home. Here's some pics showing the problem. (http://www.pbase.com/teg9/300d_overexposing_problem) Anyone here experienced this before? IS this a sign of my camera going bad? Any input would be apreciated.

Please put the EXIF data of the "phanthom" photos so that we can see what could be wrong.
have you checked FEC?

could be the shutter dying!
did you use your 420EX for these shots? could be that the 420EX isn't synchronising anymore (can also be camera problem)
i've repaired hundreds of 300D's and this problem can come from several things.

I've added the full exif data on each pictures. I'm aware of the FEC settings, tried -2 FEC came out overexposed. Yes they were taken with 420EX. Shutter dying?! I hope it's not that, I'll try to reproduce the problem later today.

I've had trouble with both my D30 and 10D acting up on exposure. I sure wish they worked as well as the old film cameras!
Just check your histogram often.

Shouldn't the TV be 1/200? you're using ISO 800 and TV:1/60 AV:f4 or 1/10 @ f2.8 and firing flash.
That is impossible to work, I think.
1/10 @ f2.8 ISO 800 is a good exposure without flash. If the flash is fireing at that speed and aperture and ISO, you're bound to have a spoiled exposure.

That's what I was thinking. I have forgotten to re-adjust my ISO before, because it's not on the main screen!

ok unfortunately I got to reproduce it. Shot bunch of overexposed pics at different ISO but after I turned off and on the flash it took normal pics again and then after a while it started to overexpose some shots again. Here's some of the pics and added the rest here. (http://www.pbase.com/teg9/300d_overexposing_problem&page=all) Shot it indoor with low light. I hope it's just the flash. Oh well If this happens with the built in flash I'll get to use my best buy extended warranty again. Any more inputs?

I think it's the flash synch
1/5 of a sec f 2.8 and flash?
Madness.

What do you mean?

I think Nikolas means that 1/5th @ 2.8 would be a good exposure without flash with the lighting that is present. A flash picture would probably be around 1/60th @ 5.6.
Good luck, Terry

I am attaching a photo I took in a restaurant a couple years ago. The settings were 1/60th @ 3.5 ISO 100 with the flash on auto. With a litle PhotoShopping it turned out even better.

the 4 pics here are all taken with flash at Tv mode and with very low light available. Can anyone explain to me why the 1st and 3rd pics came out way overblown versus the well exposed 2nd and 4th shot using identical settings and lighting conditions? Sorry still a noob and this is the first time that i have encountered this. I have shot over 5000 pics with the flash 42oEX and I had never encountererd shooting a series of grossly overblown pics in a low light environment using ISO 100.

Sugestion : Try to use the auto or P mode to mimic the results. And see if the Flash is sincronized in those modes. If it still overexposes I sugest sending both the flash and camera to Canon for testing.
I'm still surprised with the aperture and speed settings on the well exposed ones. f/2.8 @ 1/5 with flash? I never remember of getting such reading.
