I was wanting to buy the LA-DC58 lens adapter tube from Canon, but one forum said that the 58mm filters interfere with the autofocus sensor as well as the light sensor as it "gets in the way".
Is there any truth to this? Should I just buy the Kenko 46.5 - 52mm adapter tube?

Have a serious look at the lens-mate (and others like it). It provides a 49mm thread that fits standard filters and adapters.

Hi,
I'm not an expert in this one, but recently I have asked a few camera shops and ask them about getting one of these adaptor for the G1. This is their response.
A smaller adaptor allows less light into the lens and smaller lens (physical size) may not do any better than the original Canon lens. The original canon lens were designed for the G1 and the lens material should be similar to the G1 ( I guess more compatible) so that you get a clearer/sharper pics.
I think it does make sense. But Canon warned in their user guide that any extension lens (such as wide angle, telephoto and macro lens) may not function at a certain extent. such as wide angle with telephoto lens.
Hope this will help.
